Postmortem

On June 12 2025, the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experienced an outage that caused a serious degradation of Wordly’s services. Not only did this outage impact Wordly, but it also severely impacted other major cloud service providers across the Internet. The outage impacted Wordly’s services starting at about 10:55 AM PDT and continued until about 1:12 PM PDT when Google was able to restore most of their services. During the entire outage, the engineering team continued to actively monitor the situation. There were multiple issues with retrieving transcripts in the Portal and receiving real-time translations in any of our various client applications. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Resolved

The Google Cloud Platform outage is no longer affecting Wordly services at this time. We will close this incident and continue to monitor throughout the day.

Update

Google reports that most of the Google Cloud Platform is restored although there are some parts still affected by the outage. As a result, Wordly is operational at this time. We will continue to monitor and resolve this incident in the next hour if there is no further impact to the Wordly platform.

Monitoring

The Google team reports that they have identified the root cause and that affected Google Cloud Platform services are in the process recovering. As a result, Wordly services are starting to recover. There is no ETA on a full recovery from Google.

Google has confirmed through their status page that there are outages with the Google Cloud Platform. We will continue to monitor and send an update when Google has resolved the outage.

We are aware that there may be a potential outage of the Google Cloud Platform where Wordly resides. This is degrading our ability to provide real-time translations and various other services. We are continuing to monitor the situation and post an update as soon as possible.
